THE IMPORTANCE OF EXERCISE

Everyone knows that exercise is important, but do you know why exercise is important? It’s beneficial to your body and your life.

Here are 5 good reasons why you should make it a regular part of your routine:

  1. WEIGHT CONTROL

One of the most common benefits of exercise is that it helps you control and manage your weight. It burns calories, which results in shedding pounds. Even simple exercises such as brisk walking or jogging can have a positive effect on weight loss.

  1. PHYSICAL FITNESS

Exercise doesn’t just keep you fit, it helps you stay healthy. Consistent exercise increases your overall level of fitness, which boosts your immune system and makes you more resistant to minor illnesses.

  1. ENERGY

Another rewarding reason to exercise regularly is that it gives you energy. A workout can help oxygen flow more freely throughout your body and give you that burst of energy to get you through the day. It also increases your overall stamina, which can help you stay invigorated for longer.

  1. MENTAL HEALTH

Exercise has been proven to provide a mood booster, as it releases chemicals called Endorphins into your brain which makes you feel happier and can ease the effects of depression, ADHD, and anxiety. It also helps with sleeping better at night, which also contributes to your overall good mood.

  1. LONG-TERM HEALTH

In addition to all of the immediate benefits of regular exercise, it can help prevent health conditions such as heart disease and diabetes in the long term

It’s as easy as taking a simple walk, nothing too rigorous. Try to work physical activity into your daily routine that’s best suitable to you!

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Anyone can become infected with COVID-19, some can become severely ill and require medical attention. The older population that has underlying medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

SPREAD

The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose through tiny droplets. It is important to wear a face mask correctly, cough or sneeze into a flexed elbow or tissue and dispose of it properly, and stay home and self-isolate until you recover if you feel unwell.

PREVENTION

  • Get vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccination that is available to you.
  • Stay at least 6 feet apart from others, even if they don’t show any signs of symptoms.
  • Wear a face mask properly.
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or clean them with hand sanitizer
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
  • If you feel unwell, stay home and self-isolate until you recover.

COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.

THE BENEFITS OF A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

Sleep. No matter how much we get in, we’d always want more, but there are some of us who just can’t sleep or don’t get enough at all. A lack of sleep can actually have a negative impact on your health. We all know that the experts say you should aim to get between seven to eight hours of sleep each night and here’s why:

  1. Sleep Boosts Your Immune System

When your body gets the sleep it needs, your immune cells and proteins get the rest they need to fight off whatever comes their way — like the common cold or flu.

  1. It helps Prevent Weight Gain

Of course getting eight full hours of sleep isn’t going to result in losing pounds by itself, but it can help your body from gaining weight. If you don’t get enough sleep, your body produces ghrelin, a hormone that boosts appetite, which leads us to late night snacking. Also, when you don’t sleep enough, you get more stressed and don’t have the self-control to fight off unhealthy cravings.

  1. Sleep Can Strengthen Your Heart

Lack of sleep can lead to heart problems like high blood pressure or heart attacks. That’s because little sleep can cause your body to release cortisol, a stress hormone that triggers your heart to work harder.

  1. Sleep improves your mood

A good sleep definitely leads to good moods. If you sleep well, you wake up feeling rested. Being rested helps your energy levels to plummet.

  1. Sleeping Increases Productivity

Restful sleep is linked to improved concentration and higher cognitive function, both of which can help you be successful at your daily tasks. I’m sure we have all experienced low concentration levels the day after we’ve barely gotten sleep. This is only makes your day counterproductive.

The best solution is to create a night-time routine to get your mind and body relaxed that best suitable to you!

FIGHT THE FLU!

  • Influenza, also called flu, is a contagious viral infection of the nose and throat. Flu can spread easily through coughing and sneezing. Flu can cause secondary complications such sinus and ear infections and pneumonia or make chronic medical conditions like asthma worse. (CDC, 2016b). It is the only respiratory virus preventable by vaccination.
Here’s all you need to know about the Flu:
    Prevention
    • Keep hands clean by washing with soap and water or using hand sanitizer.
    • Cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing using a tissue or your sleeve.
    • Don’t touch your face with unwashed hands, it’s the easiest way for germs to enter your body.
    • Eat healthy and exercise.
    • Clean and disinfect anything that comes in contact with secretions from the nose or mouth. Use a product that kills germs.
    • Taking the influenza vaccination is recommended annually for everyone older than six months of age. Ask your health care provider about flu vaccine.
    Symptoms
     Fever
 Aches (muscle, body, and headaches)
     Chills
     Tiredness (fatigue)
 Cough, runny or stuffy nose, and/or sore throat
 Vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults)

Spread
• By coughing or sneezing.
• By touching contaminated hands, objects, or surfaces.

Treatment
Antiviral drugs can reduce influenza symptoms, shorten the duration of illness by one to two days, and prevent serious complications, like pneumonia. Antivirals work best when taken within 48 hours of getting sick, but may still be beneficial when given later in the course of illness.
Call or visit your health care provider once anyone in your home has a high fever and a coughs.
